According to Cars Direct, the Jetta is powered by one of three different engines, a modest 115-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a lively 180-hp 1.8-liter turbo four-cylinder, and finally for those looking for maximum fuel economy a 100-hp 1.9L TDI diesel engine. Depending on the engine, buyers can also choose between four different transmission types; five-speed or six-speed manual, and either a four-speed or five speed automatic. AM/FM CD player with 8 speakers, air-conditioning, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry, power windows and door locks, are all standard conveniences on the Jetta. When it comes to safety, all Jetta's are equipped with six airbags, anti-lock brakes, front safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, anti-intrusion side door beams, and a steering wheel which is deformable/collapsible upon impact. Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP) with brake assist is optional on all models.
For 2005, the 2.8-liter VR6 engine has been removed from the Jetta lineup. There are no other significant changes from the previous model year.
